Frequently asked questions
What is the Group Discount?
Some universities are recognised as our partner institutions. Students from partner universities receive a Group Discount of £150 per student.
A university becomes a partner institution when it:
- agrees to promote the Summer School to its students, and
- signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with us.
Because of our existing relationship with ECUST, it is already recognised as a partner institution. ECUST students therefore automatically qualify for the £150 Group Discount.
You do not need to organise a group of a certain size. The discount is linked to your university’s partner status, not the number of students applying.
Can students receive both the Group Discount and the Early Bird Discount?
Yes, students can receive both discounts.
If a student from a partner institution:
- qualifies for the Group Discount (£150), and
- completes their booking before the Early Bird deadline (£150)
then both discounts will be applied. This means a total discount of £300 per student.
The programme fee is £2,750 and includes accommodation. Can the University provide a cost breakdown and a receipt for reimbursement?
Yes.
The total programme fee is £2,750, and this includes accommodation.
We can provide:
- a breakdown of costs (for example, how much of the fee covers accommodation), and
- an official receipt from the University.
If you need these documents, please contact the Summer School team and we will arrange this for you.
I am a Computing student. Does this meet the requirement of “Science and Engineering” subjects?
Yes. Computing (Computer Science and related subjects) is considered part of Science and Engineering, so you are eligible to apply.
I am a Business School student. Does this meet the requirement of “Science and Engineering” subjects?
Usually no. This Summer School is mainly designed for students studying Science or Engineering subjects.
However, you may be eligible if your course has a strong technical or analytical focus, for example:
- Business Analytics
- Data Analytics
- Technology Management
- Other programmes with significant computing, data, or engineering content
If you are unsure, please email us with:
- the name of your degree programme, and
- a short description of what you study.
We will be happy to check this for you.
After the Summer School, will students have certificates? What does the certificate look like?
Yes, all students who successfully complete the Summer School will receive an official Certificate of Participation after the programme. The certificate will include the student’s name, the title of the Summer School, the dates of attendance, and confirmation of participation issued by the Faculty of Engineering. It will carry the University branding and authorised signatures.
A sample certificate will be shared here shortly so you can see the format and information included.
What are the English language requirements? Do you accept CET-4 or CET-6?
Students from majority English speaking countries do not need to provide an official English language qualification but must upload their most recent university transcript to confirm they are studying in English.
Students not from a majority English speaking country should have an English language level at IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, or equivalent to join (e.g. College English Test 6 with a score of 425 / Duolingo English test with an overall score of 105 and a minimum of 95 in each component).
We do not require you to provide an English test result with your application to demonstrate you meet the English language requirement.
If you do not provide an English test result, you accept responsibility for ensuring your English level is sufficient to fully engage with the programme. To get the most out of your experience you should have the confidence to communicate complex ideas and collaborate with international peers in an English-only environment.
Students from exchange partner universities can get confirmation from their home university of their English language level if they have been nominated by the university.
Costs for food are not included. Can you estimate how much it will be on average?
There is a wide range of cafés, restaurants, and supermarkets both on campus and in the city centre. Students will therefore have plenty of choice, whether they prefer eating out or preparing their own meals using the kitchen facilities in their accommodation. The estimated daily cost range below assumes a balanced mix of these options.
Meal | Daily Cost range |
Breakfast | £4 – £7 |
Lunch | £6 – £10 |
Dinner | £10 – £20 |
Total | £20 – £37 |
