Take every chance to explore and discover what excites you. At Sheffield, I was inspired by my classmates and teachers in the School of Geography and Planning.

After graduating, I began my career as an environmental consultant, conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) to evaluate project impacts and recommend sustainable solutions. I later worked as an environmental engineer in the construction industry, where I contributed to projects aiming for internationally recognised certifications such as BEAM Plus, WELL, and LEED.

My career focus has shifted to the healthcare sector, where one of my key responsibilities is managing environmental matters within a hospital. I am also involved in projects that explore and apply new technologies to strengthen sustainability in the hospital. Looking back, my journey from consultancy to construction and now healthcare reflects both adaptability and a strong commitment to sustainability. My time at Sheffield provided me with the foundation to pursue these opportunities, and the experiences I gained there continue to inspire me in my professional path.

During my time in Sheffield, I gained valuable experience through volunteering. As a Conservation Evidence Volunteer at WWT Slimbridge Wetland, I developed practical skills in environmental research and conservation. At Weston Park Museum, I strengthened my communication skills and connected with the local community. Serving as a WaterAid Ambassador for a year enhanced my leadership and advocacy skills, deepening my commitment to environmental and social responsibility. Together, these opportunities complemented my studies and continue to shape my professional journey.

The classmates and teachers in the School of Geography and Planning inspired me greatly, encouraging me to explore new ideas and discover what I truly love to do. Their support gave me the confidence to pursue my interests and shape my career path. In particular, the guidance from my dissertation tutor was invaluable, providing mentorship that helped me grow academically and professionally.

Take every chance to explore and discover what excites you. Don’t be afraid to ask for guidance — the support I received from my dissertation tutor Dr. Felix Ng gave me confidence to grow academically and professionally.

Surround yourself with people who motivate you, and you’ll find the journey both rewarding and full of opportunities.
